Introduction

Impacts of poverty spread and still exist in third world countries included India for long years, through they had multi natural and human resources. In post-independent years, India fight against poverty with all its mighty efforts and declared that it has achieved self- sufficient in food production. It is appreciable because it is truly a great leap of the country in the short period as well as tired less work of our national leaders in co –operation with dedicated public servants.

While we are remembering all these achievements, one does not forget the roles of the voluntary organizations in poverty elimination some times they are having with different opinions with our beaurocrats and the state policy but they are always pro-poor. They are looking for the co –operation from state organs to uplift the comprehensive development of marginal segments.

Nature of the organization

Social Education For Rural Development (SERD) is a non- political, non profit secular voluntary organization based Manamadurai, constituted under Tamil Nadu Society registration act 27 of 1975 on the day of 30th December 1991. It has also been registered under section 6 (1) of Foreign contribution Regulation Act and obtained Registration Number 075990079 on the date of 16th July 1999. In accordance with this act, we are eligible to get funds, grants or gifts from abroad sources. In addition to this, it is public charitable society under section 12 AA of the income tax act, 1961 that is entitled to exempt all revenues of the organization after the examination of Assessing officer.

Composition of the organization

As per the society act, SERD has been composed of two-tire system include with governing body and General body.


Existing General body is having with 8 women of 11 members and the Governing body comprises with 6 women of 7 members
